talking to the dead

Last week was the annual event for all Chinese to visit the graves. Usually bus loads of Chinese people are transported over to Colma, Daly City for this busy weekend. We visit the graves, line up for a coupon for a pound of free roasted pork and then go to a relative’s house for some chow mein and buffet style Chinese food.

For our family of almost 80 people, this could be the only time we get to see the entire family. I usually enjoy this day as I get to talk with the living as well as the deceased. I would talk (in my head) to my grandmom who passed away in 2003 when she was 101 years old. Tell her I miss her and how great she was when she was alive.
