Why I am not switching browsers

Recently, there have been many new browsers that are just forks of the Chrome browser technology. And then they just added skin on top of it and add a layer of AI.

Here are the reasons why I am not going to install another browser.

  • Like many others, my browser has very personal information with browser history, cookies, passwords that I save on websites. Am I really going to give it to yet another startup with all that important information? I would rather trust with Apple or Google who already has all my data. I also trust that they invest a lot in security and privacy and would never want to be on the headline of a data breach.
  • The Chrome browser is also used as an embedded browser in many apps. So that would be switching out many of my beloved Chrome plugins which also makes it a non-starter.
  • Instead of jumping to the next hyped browser, I would rather have a Chrome plugin that I can control data access. Recently I’ve been using the Claude plugin into the Chrome browser to automate mundane and repetitive tasks and it’s been working out really well. For example, it was able to unsubscribe and delete about a thousand spam comments on my website.
