My wife and I are contemplating moving to the Big Island on a 3, 5 or 8 year timeline. If we only think with our heads, financially this does not make sense for us. We won’t be able to move in the 2 years from the bay area with our current jobs. From the head and gut, this move feels like the right step for us to take a leap of faith.
We found a house in a neighborhood in Kona *and* the house we are ecstatic about, with a great ocean view.
For me personally, I am looking at how I can continue to play tennis and/or badminton on the island.

Tennis Club
The Royal Kona Resort Tennis Club has a very low key friendly staff. I took coaching lessons with their director of tennis Albert Murata. They have a few social activities as well.
Holua Racquet and Paddle Center has tennis (11) and pickleball (4) with reasonable membership rates.
